Is It That Hard To Wash Your Hands?

11/05/09  09:35am

I've never been able to wrap my brain around the fact that people will go to the bathroom, especially in a public restroom, and not wash their hands.  This drives me crazy and on more than one occasion I have exited a public bathroom and pointed out to others the person (or people) who I saw not wash their hands.  I do it as a public service in case one of the non-washers attempts to shake their hands, they know not to engage.  For anyone who has benefitted from this free service I provide, you are welcome.

I started thinking about this today because of a video I saw online from the Associated Press.  The video is about a new door handle on the inside of restrooms that allows the user to not touch the handle directly with their hand.  It was developed because of complaints from people that once you wash your hands you have to go and grab a dirty door handle to get out of the bathroom.  Check it out:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1MPlRcjH1M

The problem I have with it is you are still coming into contact with the handle, it might not be with your hand but it's still touching your shirt or your exposed forearm.  The heart of the problem still exists, the problem being people who don't wash their hands after going to the bathroom.  The handle solves nothing because people will still grab it with their dirty hands, not everyone will use it as intended.

How would I solve this problem?  It's simple.  I would make it mandatory that people who use the bathroom wash their hands!!!!!!!  Am I talking legislation?  Why not!!!!  Of course that won't happen so I will settle for a 300 pound dude who stands by the door and politely encourages you to go back and wash your hands.

Seriously people, just wash your hands!  Is it really that hard to do?

Big Blooper

There have been plenty of sports bloopers over the years but I don't know that I have ever seen anything like what happened during a semi-pro football game:

If you didn't figure it out, dude tackled his own guy!!!!! Watch it again and really focus on the reaction of the tackler after he realizes what just happened. Also, you can barely hear one of the fans in the stands say "what are you doing?" The guy that made the tackle should be off the team. I mean he doesn't even know his role on special teams which is to BLOCK the other team, not tackle your own man!

Proper Punishment?

11/03/09 10:10am

The Florida Gators beat the Georgia Bulldogs over the weekend but the real story isn't the final score. It's what happened between Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes (#51) and Georgia back Washaun Ealey.

Spi kes will sit out the first half of Florida's next game and then will be allowed to play in the second half. He purposely eye gouged Ealey! When you consider that Ealey was defenseless and that ripping at his eyes could have lead to serious physical problems, the punishment seems a bit light to me. But Florida is a big time program and they are competing for a National Championship so I guess it all makes sense. What do you think?

Times Are Tight

In today's tough economy everyone seems to be struggling, even criminals.  Normally a burglar would spare no expense when getting outfitted for a job but these aren't normal times.  What does a burglar do when he can't afford to buy a black ski mask?  Use permanent marker of course!  Duh!
