MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputies will check out the gas pedal on a Toyota involved in a fatal weekend crash – even though the model was not on the recall list. 76-year-old Emilie Bartha of Milwaukee died, and her husband Bela was hospitalized in critical condition at last word. The crash happened Saturday morning on a freeway exit ramp in downtown Milwaukee. Witnesses said the Barthas’ 2002 Toyota Camry was speeding when it hit a snow bank and 2 poles, and then went airborne and rolled over. The ’02 Camry is not on the list of vehicles that Toyota recalled for stuck gas pedals. But the sheriff’s department says its normal procedure is to check out the car’s mechanical workings – and the gas pedal will be part of that review.
