GREEN BAY, Wis. (WTAQ) - Wisconsin is about to get its first major snowstorm in over a month. It began during the night in many places – and by the time it’s done on Wednesday, up to 16 inches could fall in Metro Milwaukee. Everybody in the Badger State will get something. The National Weather Service expects 5 to 10 inches near Lake Superior – 2 to 4 inches elsewhere in the north – 3 to 9 across the middle of the state – 6 to 10 in the south – and 10 to 16 inches in the southeast along Lake Michigan.

Most of Wisconsin will be covered by winter storm warnings or advisories tonight into Wednesday. They’ve already started in the far western part of the state near the Twin Cities. Forecasters say a low pressure system will slowly move across the Midwest through Wednesday – and that’s why it’s going to snow for so long. But Chris Franks of the Weather Service in Sullivan says much of it will be relatively dry and easy to shovel. Milwaukee could get twice as much snow as it got in all of January – when almost 8.5 inches fell. That was about 7 inches below the norm.
